The Hadassah Medical Center recently replaced its previous logo with a new one that no longer includes the Star of David. Individuals affiliated at the medical center told HaKol HaYehudi that this follows a trend in which Hadassah has been removing Jewish and Zionist symbols in public spaces. These removals have taken place in parallel with a massive increase in the number of Arab employees. We previously reported about the removal of Israeli flags and their instead being replaced with Ramadan decorations by Arab workers at one department.

Recently, the new logo has begun to appear on official Hadassah documents and at the entrance to the Ein Kerem Medical Center. The logo is based on the English letter ‘H’ with a cut in the middle so that it also resembles the Hebrew letter ‘hey’.

In responding to an inquiry from HaKol HaYehudi, the Hadassah Medical Center said that the new logo will not replace the old logo on the flags at the entrance to the hospital and that the Star of David is a “source of deep Zionist pride” for the hospital.

*Hadassah: “The hospital provides care for every person as a human being”
The Hadassah Medical Center further responded to our inquiry, saying “The Star of David remains in the Hadassah logo! About a year ago, Hadassah began a rebranding process aimed at updating our 120 year old history. Part of this process included finding new graphic language appropriate for our modern digital world. Such efforts are common across many large organizations. Our work on this process included a review of our work environment, and defining Hadassah's values and vision. The old Hadassah symbol was by no means erased; it appears and will continue to appear on Hadassah's buildings and flags with the Star of David imagery, which serves as a source of deep Zionist pride."

"However," Hadassah continued, "the updated logo better reflects our modern digital and forward-looking world while preserving the essential values of Hadassah as a leading medical center providing treatment to every person as a human being. This symbol will be used by Hadassah on our official documents and in various digital formats."

Rabbi Aviad Gadot, Director of Hotam, responded: "Hadassah Hospital's response is lacking and came only after we publicized the matter. Hadassah Women established the hospital over 100 years ago and proudly placed the Star of David at the center of the institution’s logo, out of a sense of Jewish and Zionist pride. The hospital's attempts to distance itself from its Jewish roots to curry favor with progressive and international groups is part of the problematic conception that the Jewish people must overcome. We will continue our efforts to uphold the Jewish identity of the state of Israel in all areas."
