Last week, a first‑of‑its‑kind gathering of Shabiba — the student movement of the Fatah terrorist organization — was held “in the northern districts,” expressing a clear intention to renew activity in the Gaza Strip. For many years, Shabiba, Fatah’s student organization, has been responsible for recruiting militants into the organization’s military wing, alongside ideological activity and open incitement to terrorism.
A quick look at Shabiba’s Facebook page from a few weeks ago offers a glimpse into its activity of encouraging terrorism and indoctrinating for war against Israel. This is the organization whose event Ayman Odeh attended as a guest of honor.
In a post dedicated to Nasser Awais — who served as Marwan Barghouti’s deputy in commanding Fatah’s military wing and was sentenced to 14 life terms for suicide bombings — the page declared: “The prisoner, commander… son of a line of martyrs, the muzzle of your rifle will not be extinguished.”
Another post, dedicated to two terrorist brothers from Beit Rima who were killed in a firefight with IDF soldiers and were members of Shabiba, featured a video with the lyrics: “Bullet for bullet, and fire for fire,” and “The Fatah member has made his decision: revolutionaries we were born, revolutionaries.” Additional videos showed militants throwing stones at IDF forces, or a poster of Yasser Arafat, founder of Fatah, with the quote: “Do not cheer for me, but cheer: ‘Palestine and Jerusalem — with spirit and blood we will sacrifice for you, Palestine. To Jerusalem march millions of martyrs.’”
These are, of course, only a few examples from a broad campaign of incitement designed to indoctrinate and recruit students into the path of armed struggle that is the core of Fatah’s identity.
The chairman of the Hadash party, Member of Knesset Ayman Odeh, arrived as the representative of the “Palestinians” who are citizens of Israel. He sat at the table of honor alongside Abu Mazen and his deputy in Fatah, Mahmoud Al‑Aloul.
Mahmoud Al‑Aloul currently heads Fatah’s Tanzim. In the years preceding the war—years in which members of Fatah’s military wing were involved in attacks—his own personal bodyguard was among them. He also publicly expressed support for attacks when he tweeted on May 13, 2023: “Palestinian blood is one, and the Palestinian people have more options, the most important of which is the option of Naif Abu Sharakh, Omar Abu Laila, Abdullah Al‑Tin, and Muhammad Abu Bakr.” All of these are militants in Fatah’s military wing, including his bodyguard and the terrorist who murdered Rabbi Achiad Ettinger.
One of the videos posted on the movement’s social‑media channels as an invitation to the gathering featured the convicted terrorist Yasser Abu Bakr—released in the most recent hostage deal from a life sentence for the murder of an infant in an attack in Netanya. Yasser Abu Bakr, described as a commander in Fatah’s military wing, had served before his imprisonment as a senior figure in the Shabiba movement itself. Upon his release, Abu Bakr immediately received a phone call from Abu Mazen.
Afterwards, he received a certificate of appreciation from Jibril Rajoub at a Fatah ceremony in Nablus, just days before Rajoub received an entry permit to visit his son, who was hospitalized in Israel.
Abu Bakr’s dual role in Shabiba and in Fatah’s military wing is not unusual. Recently, we reported on another event held by the Fatah movement in Nablus, in which a certificate of appreciation was awarded to the terrorist Raed Abd al‑Jalil — the one who supplied the explosive belt and the weapon to the terrorist who carried out the attack at the Hitzim yeshiva in Itamar in 2002. He also said in an interview that as part of his activity in Fatah’s military wing, he was responsible for Fatah youth summer camps and for activities in schools during the Intifada.
In Abu Mazen’s speech — delivered while an Israeli Member of Knesset sat beside him — he spoke about the liberation of Jerusalem and the return of the Palestinian Authority to Gaza, alongside blessings to the “martyrs” and terrorists. Following are some of his remarks:
“I greet you with the greeting of Jerusalem, our eternal capital, which resides in the conscience of every Palestinian man and woman. I greet you with the greeting of the martyrs of our people, the wounded, and the prisoners.”
“There is no state without Gaza, and no state in Gaza alone. And no state without Jerusalem… and no peace without a just solution to the issue of the Palestinian refugees.”
“Jerusalem was and will remain the crown jewel, and the address of our identity… our identity and the capital of our state.”
“Our position has been firm and clear from the first moment: the ‘Gaza Administration Committee’ must be connected to the legitimate Palestinian government… Any attempt to bypass the role of the Palestinian Authority and the Organization (the PLO) will be rejected by our people.”
“You are the ones who will raise the flag of Palestine — you, above the minarets of Jerusalem, the churches of Jerusalem, and the walls of Jerusalem.”
“To ask for mercy upon the souls of the martyrs of our people, and to strengthen our heroic prisoners in the detention centers of the Israeli occupation.”
