A new public opinion survey by the Ramallah-based polling institute of Dr. Khalil Shikaki, released today, exposes the deep-seated support for the war with Israel among Arabs in Judea and Samaria and the Gaza Strip. Two years after the October 7 massacre carried out by Hamas, and despite two years of warfare, over 50% of "Palestinians" still believe Hamas's decision to launch the attack was the correct one.
Although support has declined from its peak at the war's start, as the full price paid by the Arabs became clear, a majority of the populace still believes Hamas’s decision to launch the massacre was correct. According to the poll’s data, 53% of all surveyed Palestinians stated that Hamas’s decision to carry out the attack was correct. Support is higher among Arabs in Judea and Samaria (59%) compared to residents of Gaza (44%), who have felt the destruction of the Strip firsthand.
When questioned about the Trump Plan, despite roughly 50% expressing general support for the plan, a staggering 69% of respondents stated they would oppose the disarmament of Hamas, even if that meant the renewal of active warfare.
This willingness to continue fighting is even stronger among Arabs in Judea and Samaria (78%). However, even in Gaza—despite the destruction of most of the built-up area and the fact that 72% of respondents reported a dead or wounded family member—a majority (55%) would prefer to continue the war rather than see Hamas disarmed.
An additional, notable finding, which matches the findings of a Gallup poll published this week, concerns the perceived level of personal security of Arabs in Judea and Samaria. The survey found that 85% of Arabs in the area reported feeling unsafe, a significant leap from the 50% who felt that way two years ago.
