UN list claims Jewish visits to the Temple Mount, Arab terror attacks are "settler violence”

UN data on "settler violence" reveals new proportions of the blood libel. Out of the listed incidents, 30% were not in Judea and Samaria, but rather in Jerusalem. Many involved no ‘settlers’ and no violence

Hakol HaYehudi collected the UN’s data on ‘settler violence’ and exposed the truth this false campaign being promoted by the European Union, with left-wing NGOs, and the UN itself.

The extent of the lies is hard to believe. Among the list of incidents of "settler violence,” there are multiple that are actually terror attacks carried out by Arabs where Jews were murdered. Others involve incidents where the IDF opened fire upon Arab rioters and attackers. Furthermore, 30% of the events took place in Jerusalem and were not at all violent but instead mentioned Jews and tourists ascending to the Temple Mount.

Dr. Michael Wolfowicz, a criminologist at the Hebrew University, received the data to investigate the alleged rise in settler attacks. According to the UN, between 2016 and 2022, there were over 5,656 incidents of settler violence against Palestinians.

30% of listed incidents in Jerusalem
However, analyzing the data revealed that over 1,600 of these (29%) occurred in Jerusalem, and 1300 of them (23% of the total) involving Jews who visited the Temple Mount or police clashes with Arab rioters on the Mount. Such incidents involve neither ‘settlers’ nor criminal violence….

The remaining 2,500 incidents (less than half- 45%) often listed incidents of trespassing or similar non-violent incidents.

Furthermore, these 45% include hundreds of incidents that have absolutely nothing to do with alleged "settler violence." The most outrageous items on the list are incidents where terrorists shot or stabbed Jews and were neutralized by soldiers or armed civilians, which according to the UN is somehow ‘settler violence.’ I

Terrorist murders a Jew- It’s Settler Violence
As an example of the unprofessional of the UN in forming the list, one can examine an incident from April 8th, 2018. On that day Mahmad Abad Al-Karim Marshoud attempted to stab Israeli residents at a gas station near Maale Adumim. An armed Israeli citizen neutralized the terrorist with his personal weapon. Later, on April 9th, 2018 the attacker died from his injuries. This incident was listed as an example of settler violence by the UN. Even worse though, the incident was listed twice, both on April 8th and April 9th, once as a shooting where Marshoud was injured, and then again for his death.

A similar example can be found on July 26th, 2018. There the UN lists states, “A 31 year-old settler was killed and two settlers (aged 41 and 58) were injured after being stabbed by a 17 year old Palestinian near the settlement of Adam, next to the village of Jaba. The Palestinian was identified as Muhammad Tarek Dar Yusuf from the village of Kubar; he was shot and killed using live ammunition by a settler from the community. The Palestinian’s body was not released by the Israeli authorities in Jerusalem.”

Likewise, when Yotam Abadi was murdered, the UN claims it was ‘settler violence’ apparently also because the terrorist was shot by ‘settler.’

Another incident of ‘settler violence’ was a stabbing in Havat More in Har Hevron. The owner of the farm shot and killed a terrorist after being stabbed near his home while his wife and children were in another room nearby.

Lastly, a terrorist who penetrated the Jewish community of Yitzhar to carry out a stabbing was shot by security forces and injured not far from the homes of the people he planned to stab. This again was claimed as ‘settler violence.’

Tourism at Archeological sites is settler violence

Likewise, incidents where Arab stone throwers were injured by security forces while throwing stones at Jewish visitors to archeological sites such as Joseph’s Tomb, are listed as ‘settler violence.’

A tourist excursion approved by the IDF to the archaeological sites in Sebastia was again listed as an example of settler violence where the army and settlers entered the village of Sebastia. The UN noted on this incident ‘there was damage but no injuries were reported.’

The UN’s methodology also seems to claim that any incident near a Jewish community in Judea and Samaria involves ‘settler violence’ even if it is an IDF operation. For example, soldiers shooting at Arab rioters near a Jewish community is considered settler violence.

A conservative estimate suggests that only about 35% of these events actually involve both settlers and violence. Yet even these are often questionable including traffic accidents, such as one case where a Jewish settler hit a Palestinian child, and incidents where Arabs ‘fled settler violence’ and sustained injuries after falling.

Furthermore, for proportionality, even if we divide this 35% of events by the 96 month period covered, we find an average of approximately 20 events per month, most of which involve mutual confrontations or inaccuracies.

In comparison, according to the IDF in 2022, there were 9,156 incidents against Jews in Judea and Samaria, an average of 763 per month, which includes stone-throwing (7,589), firebombings (1,268), shootings (285), and stabbings (14).

UN shows anti-Semitic bias in both directions
The UN's report on attacks against Israelis by Palestinians shows even worse biases. According to the UN, between 2016 and 2022, there were only 1,935 incidents where Palestinians attacking Israelis, including incidents in Jerusalem.

This data is highly misleading, as according to the IDF, just from 2019 and 2022, there were 25,257 attacks by Arabs on Jews in Judea and Samaria alone (excluding Jerusalem). These attacks included over 20,000 incidents of stone-throwing, around 4,000 attacks with Molotov cocktails, 400 shootings, and over 50 stabbing incidents.

The UN's portrayal of "settler violence" is part of a sustained blood libel against Israel. The UN accepts eports from the Palestinian Authority and radical left-wing NGOs, often supported by the EU, at face value without any further assessments.

For instance, the UN has supported the claim that the IDF kills Palestinian children. An investigation by Hakol HaYehudi exposed unveiled how these falsehoods come to be. The International Women's Peace Service (IWPS), a BDS-supporting organization, sends activists to visit Samaria for a few months each year where they engage in provocations and report on "Israeli apartheid." In one report, they traveling to Shechem (Nablus) to clean graves of individuals that they claimed were murdered  by "settlers." They posted a picture of a "Palestinian child killed by the IDF" along with his grave. A brief Google search revealed that the child was killed in a local dispute in Balata, and that the Palestinian Authority even arrested suspects in his murder.

As in that case, so to Hakol HaYehudi has been working to expose the falsehoods of the ‘settler violence’ campaign, which is based on anti-Semitic tropes, at times even with the support of some in the Israeli security authorities.
